Lil’ Murph isn’t too bothered by the adorable baby raccoon we rescued. He sometimes shows signs of discontent, maybe it’s not jealousy, but it’s something. I’m making an extra effort to remind him he is my special sweetness.
Today, however, his chin blackened around the baby. This is what Beardies do for different reasons, be it pain, anger, stress, or an excitement around other Beardies. Regarding our Murph, this is a sign he has a negative opinion about the company his Mommy is making him keep. He also probably wasn’t HaPpY with the way I held him for the photo.
Murph & I are outside. It’s windy, but this brown decking radiates the sun’s heat. Murph has flattened upon it for warmth, as well as to expand the surface of his body for maximum uva & uvb absorption! So cool!
With the help of a fabulous neighbor, someone close to her, also a caring, kind lady, lives an hour or two away, is happy to drive to get Gypsy and take him or her to another lady that I hope will love Gypsie so much. My calls & messages to wildlife rehabilitators were futile. They are too busy with little or no help from volunteers.
A blogger friend warned that baby raccoons get attached to their caretakers. It’s true. Gypsy sometimes cries just to be held. He or she follows me. Others times Gypsy keeps occupied playing with it’s feet or items I placed in the cage, just as human babies will do as they lay in bed.
Gypsy gets a lot of love & food before I go to bed and has stopped crying through the night (for now)!! The 10th will be the 10th night with Gypsy. It is not fair that baby raccoons are so cute. I already can’t bare to imagine walking into the entry room where Gypsy stays) without that sweet soul in it.
I am powerless against the preciousness & cute noises. I don’t want to let go of Gypsy. I do want what is best for him or her, even if it isn’t my undying love that happened all too quickly.
In ending, I want you to see what I noticed in the sun’s light. Murph has some orange/pink in some spikes and yellow between scales at his ear (& a few other places too).
