What Do Lizards Say About Total Solar Eclipses?

Well, not much, but…

As for Lil’ Murph, I think moments after we got in the vehicle to watch the eclipse, he thought he was going to the vet again. He was like liquid lizard. Pouting. The boy was mush!! 1 eye closed, the other half open, taking in the scenery as a whole and refusing to focus on any one thing.

Then, he perked up when he realized he was not going to the vet and that nothing bad was entering his life.  Around strangers, he shut down a bit. But, during the eclipse and all the moments later as we were where we were, he was as alert as any living being could be!! I’m so grateful he is in my life during such a glorious time.

Lil’ Murph saw the total solar eclipse… I think he did. Sort of. I placed a “spec approved” lens to the eye facing the sun. He closed it. I moved it. That eye opened. I replaced the lens, and he closed that eye again. I did this multiple times,  but stopped to enjoy it as I thought to myself,  “Lizards have been seeing, or choosing not to look at this sight for eons. I’ll leave it be. “

Murphy… Look!!! This is special…

But then the eclipse began happening full swing. I let nature take its course. If it hurts his beautiful eye(s) he will not look.

I brought his blankie in case he seemed bothered. I could cover his eyes, but he, like all animals, probably know when to look and when not to.

Did anyone who saw this glorious event hear how everything stopped, including the beautiful bird songs?

Maybe Murph was depressed because he couldn’t get the cool eclipse lizard glasses everyone is talking about. Remind him he is the definition of cool. 😎

  5. Ya know, you have a point there. Ours had a cheasy black spot above the nose and Mr. Murph did not get bespoke shades as demanded by his unique facial structure. I absolutely reminded him of his coolness. He is so cool, in fact, that he lays here unfazed by our compliments. He’s a cool dude ready for bed… been in the sun for hours. He’s a rebellious spirit, but cozy wozy for mama at night time. Thank you, friend. Guessing your trip went well.

  8. Maybe he wasn’t too interested in the eclipse itself, but at least he didn’t think it was a vet visit.

  9. True. Poor guy, I didn’t mean to stress him, I just selfishly wanted him with me.
For a fleeting moment, it’s as though Earth, she and all her creatures were entirely still and silent. Not a peep from a bird, not a car sound (around us that is), even the super sweet people around us were quiet for a few seconds. 🙂
