There is a lot in this book, even an exorcism of a Catholic school performed by Mr. Duquette, who happens to be a bishop!! He lists the line of bishopry (that’s a word, right?) ending with himself and going back to St. Peter in 38 AD. The Roman-Old Catholic isn’t the only denominational line he’s been consecrated into either. It’s all in the book. Mr. Duquette is not a financially wealthy man, but if what he states is true, he has had a wealth of crazy experiences! Not crazy as in crazy (well, possibly) but crazy as in “Wow! What a life!! Whether you consider this book to be fiction or not, this man is extremely entertaining.

Mr. Duquette goes on to mention how “The Egyptian Book Of The Dead” guides the spirit in the afterlife. In life people are to memorize things, such that the mind holds these throughout their passage into the afterlife and henceforth gives the means to which they can retain their individuality, rather than it becoming part of the cosmic medley or soul stew. -My words, not his. You get the gist of it. I’m not a professional book reviewer.

If the mind lives on beyond the brain, if mind and brain are not one in the same (as brains are matter & the mind is intangible), and if mind and consciousness are one in the same, it seems plausible that one could retain knowledge beyond death. A person’s brain, is supposedly scientifically proven, to have an abundance of activity moments into and after death. Some claim its just neurons dying, but the activity is region specific, including, but not limited to the frontal lobe where recall takes place. Could this be the dying recognizing faces of loved ones on the other side? Some claim there is brain activity into hours after death, and in some individuals, days afterwards. If consciousness is energy, we know energy cannot be destroyed, only altered or dispersed.
If this is the case, I appreciate the traditional “wakes,” I would like to remain with loved ones until, or throughout burial or cremation. Somehow, I never thought about asking such permissions from the funeral homes/caretakers.
Maybe that’s weird, maybe not, don’t care, just being honest. It wouldn’t be so strange for me to spend hours in a funeral home, because aside from other things I’ve done, I was a painter for years (I have painted canvas but not for money). I’ve painted custom homes, and done many residential and apartment repaints. I could paint a tiny kitchen and bath complete (roll and cut) in 45 minutes – but that’s not the point! I’ve also painted in funeral homes as showings took place in one of the parlors. I saw an employee turn the corner and break down sobbing – not for the dead, but she felt the pain of the living. I didn’t try to console her. She didn’t need me to. To them, I’m probably just a painter who knows the owner.
Bodies have been rolled past me as I painted baseboards in a hallway. I smelled a room where a man lay dead for 2 weeks because of an issue with the family. I rinsed a brush and bucket at a “slop sink” with someone’s dear grandmother behind me. I accidentally opened a door where a man’s chest cavity was open because he was an organ donor. I admire that, but it wasn’t a pretty sight.
Why I chose that excerpt: The day my dad died, he’d not spoken for many days. But he did the morning of his final day here. Except, I could not for the life of me, despite asking him, “Daddy what are you saying?” understand his words. He tried speaking with all his might, loudly! His will is, always has been, very strong. Maybe the morphine prevented his muscles from cooperating. However, before he & his body spent days preparing to depart, he spoke fine under the effects of morphine.
When Dad tried to speak after all those days, It can be likened to being in a deep sleep or a paralyzing R.E.M. and trying to yell in your dream. I’ve wakened myself this way, instantly aware of how the yell actually sounded exiting my sleeping mouth (as an adult, I yelled for my mom, and even that simple word didn’t come out correctly). Did you know we are all paralyzed to a greater or lesser degree during the stage of REM sleep?
Reading the excerpt we just shared from “Low Magick…” made me ponder if I witnessed my dad being between worlds. Perhaps after the astral embodiment, there are finer and subtler means to ascension.
Maybe Mom tried to speak on her final day before I got to her side. She too is (was) strong. She had two amputations, suffered from being away from her home, learned how to walk in a prosthetic that hurt her greatly, because things weren’t right and everyone thought she just needed to get used to the pressure her limb was feeling. But that wasn’t it, hence her 2nd amputation. She (and Dad went through so much more than is being shared. To my sweet mother I said one day (of not enough compliments), “Mom, you are so brave.” Her response was, “What choice do I have?” I understand that, but it made her no less a strong person.
Dad left his earthly abode 5 years & 1 day after Mom – in solar days that is. In sidereal time, it may be the same day. It could be the same hour, but I stopped doing the math, as it was shortly afterward. I had emotions & many loose ends to tie up. I will resume that math another time.
Ya know, for the living at least, astral projection sounds dreamy, as if one can soar or teleport to wherever they wish. It could be like that, but it seems there also may be a dark side, and the “terrors at the threshold.” This is mentioned in the book Low Magick and possibly is a bit similar to this: https://aeon.co/essays/the-terror-and-the-bliss-of-sleep-paralysis
I don’t believe, nor wish to, that the dying experience such terrors as the living might. Better, is that perhaps there is indeed a tunnel of light and comforting entities and family are there to greet us home. Maybe teleportation through ‘no time/no space’ can happen, and we can see those whom we think of instantly. Maybe we ascend (or descend) through the subtler worlds into a paradise; a hell; a void; a purgatory; a limbo; or into an existence of introspection, where the souls rest and plan the next incarnation with their soul group or families.
But, maybe, just maybe, all of the above are realities. Can there be a heaven and reincarnation too? Could there be a heaven or a nirvana when the soul’s sojourns and experiences throughout its incarnations are complete?
Perhaps there is only one religion that has a monopoly on the truth, but which is it?

I spent years trying to convince Dad my lizards are cute. I shared the best photos and videos of Copper and Murph. “Are they cute yet, Dad?” I’d often ask? He’d grin and say, “No, but I’m glad he (or she) brings you joy.” Sigh… I’ll try again later. However, after living with Murph for a couple of months, he began asking, “Do you need me to hold your little creature?” Dad, you’re so unique, who asks it like that? Then, he’d hold and kiss Murph! Murph liked his human Grandpa’s energy. Sometimes, I think he chose to go. He knew I was at maximum capability juggling everything and he was robbed of all self-sufficiency, and saddened by his mind.
