Iguanas can be similar to dogs in that they might follow you, want to snuggle, can be taken on walks with a leash and harness, may possibly bite, and can be given soaks in the bathtub, except there are no fur, fleas, or vaccines!! They are quiet and are very sweet if given love and a good life. I had one for years. She only bit once because she was upset with me for moving her from where she felt entitled to be. She whipped me with her tail quite a few times for various reasons, but the welts heal pretty quickly. Between a kitten’s scratches on my hands, welts on the sides of my biceps, and iguana claw marks on my forearms, I looked like a mental case.😆I love her and miss her still. Her name is Goliath (who we got her from thought she was a male at first). Would I recommend an iguana as a companion? Absolutely… if you will care for it its entire life, have the space, special lighting & heat requirements, and financial stability… but not with babies right next to them.
I LOVE the sound of the pitter patter of little lizard feet!!
*I believe these insects may be too large. Generally food should be no larger than the space between the eyes to help to prevent choking and impaction.

Some individuals are finicky eaters and may not eat unless hand-fed. As some omnivorous lizards age, they may become more herbivorous. Lil’ Murph above became a strict vegetarian in his later years, except that he loved chicken thighs cooked especially for him in just water with a bit of olive oil. He also had tiny almond bits (softened by soaking them in water) for additional protein as he had no desire to eat insects anymore. Which, I don’t like seeing anything chewed alive & slowly digesting anyway.

Poppy is doing well. She’s been a bit moody lately, not wanting to come out of her enclosure & be with me much lately. I respect her decisions, but sometimes I take her out anyway to kiss her on the back of her neck or right there at that incredibly cute nose. Yes, yes I do kiss my lizards and my frog. Don’t judge me, mine are cleaner than cats or dogs. 🙂 Poppy also changed where she sleeps every day. Stay tuned for details and adorable pictures.
