Did You Know Bearded Dragons Are Music Snobs?

20171031_144226My lizards, especially my precious Bearded Dragons have been exposed to a vast musical library…. they have heard the musical genius of Metallica, Muddy Waters, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Basil Poledouris (‘Conan the Barbarian’ and ‘Conan the Destroyer’ soundtrack composer), James Brown, Kajra Re, Edvard Grieg, Nina Hagen, Nicky Jam, Eminem, sprinkle in some Elvis gospel & Johnny Cash, and not Beethoven or Mozart have sparked intrigue. They’ve heard Radiohead, Motorhead, Robert Johnson, and The Turtles…. still, no interest….

….but, acoustic guitar strummed in the same room has enticed them to turn their heads and watch for the melodic vibratory emanation before them!!! I have not discovered a scientific explanation for this. They also love to perch atop electronics like power strips (from this electric cloud they’ve been quickly moved), remote controls, and keyboards, incase you didn’t know.20181107_085510

20171024_202919“Ooh, is that acoustic guitar I hear with my cutie ears?!”

  1. Dawn Renee, that’s so funny! So cool!
I don’t even know whether lizards have ears and can really hear music or talk. Is it true?
Maybe lizards can hear loud or soft noises? I don’t know.
    Greetings from the baeutiful Rhine-Highlands / Germany…

  2. Dearest Rosie, they have ears – at the sides, behind their eyes, beautifully protected by a membrane to keep out sand & other debris. They hear all, to my knowledge. It has been my experience, they show interest to singing with an acoustic guitar, but strangely, not much else. Perhaps it is only based on the personalities of the lizards with whom I have been blessed. : ) As with all our animals, they understand when they are being spoken to with love by their humans. Their body language, once learned, becomes evident with their care-takers. They are silent, but speak in other ways. Wishing you all the best from America. Thank you for wondering about sweet lizards and for your kind comments.

  3. Dearest Dawn, I really enjoyed reading your articles and looking at the photos.
I don’t know that much about lizards. Therefore it was very interesting and informative for me. I didn’t know that Lizards could hear and be in communication with the owner. Dawn, many thanks for the interesting things I learned.
